The Heart Truth Fashion Show is an educational campaign that helps raise awareness of heart disease & stroke, which is a leading cause of death for women in Canada. The red dress is the official symbol of the Heart Truth campaign, which stands for strong, confident, courageous and passionate. Each dress was created by leading Canadian fashion designers, such as Pink Tartan, Whitney Linen, David Dixon, MOMO, Stephan Caras, Farley Chatto and many more! Not only were the dress designers fabulous, but so were the models. This year the Hearth Truth models were some of Canada’s most talked about and celebrated women such as, BT Toronto Live Eye Host Jenn Valentyne, SYTYCD Choregrapher Stacey Tookey, ETalk Reporter Traci Melchor, Actor Lauren Holly, Olympic Gold Medallist Jamie Sale, and of course the model health winners who ranged from age 70-90! I must say I think that Margaret (70s), Claire (80s) & Gladys (90s) strutted their stuff better than some of the younger ladies out there! I was deeply honoured to be invited to this exclusive event, yet very touched. It made me realize that as a woman, I must start taking care of myself now at my ‘young’ age, in order to hopefully be as strong as Gladys! ~Love CTina XO

Toronto Fashion Week: DUY F/W 2013
I totally agree with why the Mercedes-Benz Start Up Program chose DUY as the winner last season! All you have to do is take a look at his collection. Focused on the Arctic nature, this collection showcased very icy & mystical pieces! Using sequins to portray snowflakes, wools and thick knits to make us feel warm in the Arctic North and furs and leathers that showcased the wildlife of the North, there was no doubt that DUY nailed it. DUY’s color choices were thought out to perfection, consisting of icy blues, creams, whites grays, blacks and moss. To me this collection was a show stopper and a definite hit at this season’s Toronto Fashion Week!

Toronto Fashion Week: Pink Tartan F/W 2013
Pink Tartan’s F/W 2013 had to probably be one of my top 3 shows of this season’s Toronto Fashion Week! I was lucky enough to interview designer Kimberley Newport-Mimran backstage to talk about the fabulous collection! The inspiration behind her collection this season was her love for American Horror Story and that Hitchcock femme fetal style. She used Jessica Lange, or even a younger Jessica as her muse. Newport-Mimran wanted to showcase a well put together woman, but everyone else not knowing what’s going on inside her head. All the clothes were very sophisticated and so well coordinated that I believe she portrayed her collection just the way she wanted to! Even though the show featured all of Kim’s Top Pick’s, she did have a few favourites, which were, all the capes, the green mesh dress, and all the mink fur trim touches, which is more sleek than rockstar! I really enjoyed this collection and it made me want to continue Fall/Winter just to purchase everything now! ~Love CTina XO

Miz by Izzy Camilleri Fall/Winter 2013
Toronto Fashion Week kicked off with the MIZ Collection by Izzy Camilleri. This latest collection by Camilleri really made me want to be the most trendiest baby boomer ever! And that’s if I was only a baby boomer! MIZ showcased mostly black and white clothing, houndstooth patterns and basically made the 60′s mod something that every woman wants to dress like come this Fall/Winter. Even their up-do, hairdos were so Cruella! The MIZ collection featured boxy shift dresses, plenty of capes, pencil skirts, which would make anyone look curve friendly, and of course the tux pant. One of my favourite pieces from the collection had to be the capes, coming in all sizes from the ‘mini cape’ which featured shorter sleeves to the full length cape in a silver brocade fabric. Who could forget the silvery brocade fabric PJ outfit – I believe I could literally live in that daily! The number was so flattering, looked comfortable yet not sloppy and the fabric choice was to die for!
Izzy’s collection MIZ will launch in Fall 2013 and is mainly geared to those baby boomers who want to dress sexy, comfortable and stylish. ~Love CTina XO

Redken & Maybelline Interviews
I was fortunate enough to interview Jorge Joao, lead stylist for Redken, and Grace Lee, lead make up artist for Maybelline, at Toronto Fashion Week. I asked them all beauty and style questions for Spring/Summer 2013 along with tips!
Redken with Jorge Joao:
TSM: What are the hottest hair trends for S/S’13?
JJ: People are looking at easy hair, they don’t want to spend 2 hours behind the mirror. They are working with their natural textures and colours, like the ombre look, they don’t want to always be going to the hairdresser touching up their roots. As for textures, if you have wavy hair – embrace it, if you have curls – embrace it, if you have straight hair work with the straight look, and you’d be surprised what you can achieve with the right product. So we’re talking about: Less is more!
TSM: An up-do hairstyle – is it more evening or more everyday?
JJ: It is something that can cross into both worlds. By keeping sheen and texture creates diversity, which you can then wear it during the day and at night.
TSM: I noticed you were using the can to help place the hair in the right place to hold it. Is that a secret trick for styling?
JJ: I do that all the time! If I’m spraying and want to get some extra height I’ll use the can and a blow dryer, and if I’m trying to clean fly aways I’ll spray Redken’s Shine Flash on a make up brush and use the make up brush to settle the fly aways.
TSM: What is the best way to get volume without ruining your hair?
JJ: Get a good root boost and blow dry forward, so that when you lift your head you’ll get that natural volume without destroying your hair.
Maybelline with Grace Lee:
TSM: What are the hottest colours for the lips for S/S’13. I noticed on Joe Fresh it was a bold red/orange, on UNTTLD it was a dark hue and on Mendonca it was more of a pinky tone.
GL: In general it’s a bold lip! strong red, deep red, tangerine red, coral red, and then keep it softer on the eyes. It’s all about keeping it simple
TSM: Are false eyelashes hot or not?
GL: It’s one or the other. There were a couple of shows we actually used no mascara. It’s like subtracting an element makes the other one stronger – kind of like your 5 senses. When you need more drama you’re going to get it!
TSM: As for eye shadows, any specific colour?
GL: Easter egg colour on the eyes, light purples, blues, yellows are going to be the trend.
TSM: When do those fabulous Maybelline lip colours come out?
GL: In January! They are amazing! There are 20 new shades coming out, the whispers and the vivids. In the vivids collection, Vibrant Manderin was used in Joe Fresh.
TSM: Do you mix your lipsticks often?
GL: I do because I’m a makeup artist, and it all depends on the skin undertones.
TSM: What is a good concelear? I’ve tried so many and I feel none work that well.
GL: OMG! AGE REWIND CONCEALER, which is out right now! They come in 5 colours. There is a brightener which is sheer and sticks to the skin, and with the sponge tip applicator really helps brighten it and stay all day!
TSM: What is the newest mascara for S/S’13?
GL: The rocket! It is fabulous and amazing and also comes out in January.
TFW: Arthur Mendonca S/S 2013
One of my favorite Toronto designers is Arthur Mendonca, who marked his 10th anniversary this season at Toronto Fashion Week! It was one of the most wearable collections, and I would most definitely purchase several pieces from the collection!!
On Thursday, Mendonca showcased a very Japanese inspired collection, which consisted mainly of dresses and suit separates which all kept on Mendonca’s ultra feminine style. We saw the interpretation of Japanese style through kimono coats and dresses, tons of mandarin collars and many shirts and blouses with pleated details. Satiny fabrics were used in blazers and dresses. Mendonca took your ordinary menswear and transformed it into a clean lined silhouette.
Lots of bold colors were used, from raspberry, to cobalt, to coral and even a citrus green, which were all paired very nicely with each other along with greys, taupes, blacks and whites.
As for beauty, Maybelline’s lead make up artist Grace Lee kept to Mendonca’s bold vivid color scheme on the lips from oranges to fuchsias. ~Love CTina xo

TFW: Joe Fresh S/S’13 Collection
One of my most favourite shows to watch each season is Joe Fresh. Every season Joe Mimran never seems disappoint! From punches of metallics, to modern sportswear, to clean shapes and lots of leatherettes, there was plenty for the eye to digest! The most memorable moment of the show was the opening, when legendary Pat Cleveland strutted her way down the runway in a fabulous black and white geometric pant suit. Minimalism is still hot for S/S 2013 and was very prominent on the runway for Joe Fresh!
Things to watch out for in beauty for S/S13 would be the bold orange lip colour and neutral makeup. Eyes were kept natural with just a hint of mascara and skin was to perfection with just a touch of blush/bronzer on the cheeks for that sun-kissed glow
I cannot wait to shop this collection! These shows make me want Spring/Summer ASAP! ~Love CTina Xo
